What Is It?
Crafting is a feature in Vega which allows players to use the Workshop to create Upgrade Credits which can be used on ships in the game. The upgrades increase different stats & adds different modifiers mattering on what type of ship it is being used on. The maximum MK a ship can have is 5, but ships are limited in the level they can have based on tier. The MK upgrade also adds Resistance Module Slots which can be purchased in the Black Market, and an additional slot for each ship at MK4.
Breaking the Workshop Down
The workshop is split into 4 individual sections each with their own design and purpose. In order to access the workshop you will need to click the 3rd button on the bottom left of your screen, or go directly to the workshop module in your base and open it that way. In order to craft materials higher in Tier, you will need to upgrade your workshop; max level: 9.
Crafting Tab
The crafting section is where you directly craft your ships. You will have to research the MK'd upgrades inside of your Ship Lab under the Hull Upgrades tab. Once completed, the blueprint will appear in the Crafting tab, which will tell you the patterns, cores, parts, & armaments you will need in order to craft it. Once you have collected all the materials, you will have to pay a mineral cost as shown in the screenshot. Each build will take a certain amount of time ranging from minutes to days. Once completed you will have an Upgrade Credit for a single ship.

Fusion Tab
The fusion section allows you to turn your smaller tier cores into larger tier cores. For instance you can turn 4 Tier 1 Frigate cores into 1 Tier 2 Frigate core, and so on. Unlike the Scrapyard in the Black Market, you will only be able to turn smaller cores into larger cores. It serves no other purpose.
|
Materials Tab
The materials section is where you can directly view your crafting materials you have. Unlike in the crafting section where you can only view materials for hull upgrades you've already researched, you will be able to view all materials you have collected in an organized fashion which can be useful for planning future upgrades. Should you not have any of a specific pattern, core, or part, it will appear as blank.

Hunting Crafting Materials
Hunting crafting materials can be an absolute pain. They will drop randomly from crafting fleets that are constantly spawning in planet space and sector space between Level 10 to 65. The exception to this rule are Demon Corp fleets which will only spawn during VSEC runs. The crafting fleets which spawn will each specialize in a certain ship type up until their Level 60 versions. If a fleet says it has raiders inside, then it will have cruisers, scouts will have frigates, artillery will have destroyers, battalions will have battleships, and hunters will have cutters. Additionally, level 20, 30, 37, 50, & 60 fleets will not drop core boxes.
The best method for getting crafting materials though, with the exception of carriers which can only be gotten from crafting fleets, is from sector activities. If you look at the top right of your screen there will be a button which has a calendar picture on it, clicking that will bring you to the sector activity screen as shown below. It will show a schedule for supply runs which offer guaranteed drops for the specific class that you are hunting, but we warned their fleets are far more difficult than crafting fleets. Regardless of this though, they are easily the fastest and most recommended way of getting crafting materials.

Utilizing the Black Market
The Black Market can be accessed by clicking on your blood amber bar located on the top left of your screen. Goods in the Black Market can be purchased with coins or blood amber. The market is split into four sections, three of which directly relate to crafting materials.
Black Market Tab
The Black Market tab is the first tab which opens when you open the market. In addition to selling prebuilt hulls and weapon deals for coins (which are a scam might I add, you can coin the refits onto your ships directly for less money), it also sells armaments you can purchase. If you have a surplus of armaments for a lower tier, it is a quick way to get armements you may be in need of. Despite saying there is a limited time left on deals, armaments simply repeat every week and as such are practically permanent.
|
Crafting Tab
The crafting tab rotates crafting materials you can buy for Rebel to Demon Corp ships of each class. You will have to use blood amber or coins to purchase the items, plus whatever crafting parts may be additionally needed. If you are short on specific crafting materials, and have a surplus of others, or simply cannot find something you need - it can be a great resource to abuse. Keep in mind deals only last 24hrs so you'll have to pay attention to when they occur. Market deals are announced in the calendar and follow a constant schedule.
|
Scrapyard Tab
The scrapyard allows players to turn patterns into cores for the tier below them. MK5 patterns will offer 3 cores, MK4 patterns will offer 2 cores, and MK2 & 3 will offer 1 core each. This can be extremely useful as its free and if you have patterns for ships you'll never make you can get massive amounts of useful cores.
You can turn armaments of a higher tier to one of a lower tier here as well, although personally I find this to be a waste. |
