Destroyers: What Are They?Destroyers are a slow-speed class designed to deal massive damage from far range. Although no destroyer in the game has more than 4 weapon slots, they have enough weight to equip max-tier weapons and have a 150% range bonus. Their firing arc is 45 degrees making it the smallest in the game and they are vulnerable to flanks by an opponent. Despite their built-in limitations their largest bonus in FvF is their built-in counter to cruisers, their greatest FvF threat, and the direct armor damage it deals at higher mark levels. Destroyers are only directly countered by frigates which deal massive amounts of damage should they get in range. Cutters and Battleships, despite not countering, are also the best alternatives to killing FvF Destroyers.
Counters: Cruisers (200% Bonus Damage*)
Countered By: Frigates (200% Bonus Damage) *All Bonus Damage Numbers are using MK5 Values for the classes listed. |
Fighting With DestroyersDestroyers are extremely easy to pilot in FvF as your mobility is so low all you can do really is target ships. This is part of the reason that using PvP Destroyers is considered "skill-less" but regardless, destroyers will lose if not used properly.

Fighting Against DestroyersDestroyers are overpowered, there is not a gentler way of putting it. They deal direct damage to your armor from extremely long range with heavy DPS weapons. Realistically your best shot against them is to see if you can get the pilot to leave battle and go on auto, in which case you can get a carrier and kite the destroyers one by one. Unfortunately, for most experienced destroyer pilots you will not be given that opportunity, in which case your best bet is to run, or fight smart.
If you have destroyers yourself, then do the tips provided in the Fighting with Destroyers section. Should you be using cruisers, simply run as you will not win. If you are using cutters or frigates, you should flank the enemy destroyers so that one side theoretically gets through without damage giving you the best shot. If you are using battleships then you should get your carriers at one angle, and your battleships directly 90 degrees adjacent to that. This way your battleships are close enough to attack and pull out should they not be facing you, and if they are, use the carrier drones to poke down the destroyers. |
Fun Facts
- Destroyers prior to the Crafting Update were only useful in base combat and were not used in FvF at all.
- The Lance & Damocles destroyers have the most weapon slots of any destroyer upon reaching MK4.
- Destroyers are all named after weapons in real life.
