Sniping Tips
Sniping refers to attacking a base with long range weapons, such as Siege Drivers, with the Destroyer class. Doing this will allow you to minimize the number of turrets attacking you at one time, thus limiting your damage and allowing you to kill the base. You could also use snipers to prep turrets for a secondary sniper attack, or a following blitz attack. Information on Prepping can be provided Here.
How To Do It?
For starters, the only modules you want to focus on are the Combat Modules, the Bridge, the Fleet Bay, and the Terminus Mines. You will want a fleet of 4 Destroyers & 2 Decoys; builds can be found for each of these throughout the Basing Builds Sections.
When Sniping, you will want to go in with your Decoys first so they take Turret Aggro, and then bring your Snipers into firing range. The objective of the Decoys is to divert turret fire from the Destroyers while they deal damage to their target. Base Weapons will always fire at the ship closest to them, meaning that you will want to keep your Decoys in front of the Destroyers at all times or the turrets will swap targets to them.
You will want to ensure that both your Destroyers, and your Decoys, are in range of the least amount of Combat Modules as possible. The most common type of Snipers are Siege Driver Destroyers, which have a range of 7500m. This means you will be able to outrange all turrets below that range, and as you get better at sniping should be able to maneuver your decoys within a 250m Range Gap.
For an example you can see the image below. Weapons circled in blue are in range, while weapons circled in white are out of range.

Turret Avoidance
Knowing which turrets to avoid generally relates to what type of weapon the turret is. Your snipers should always be able to easily outrange Energy Weapons, and they will never be able to outrange Projectile Weapons. For Explosive Weapons, you will be able to outrange some and won't be able to outrange others, it will come down to memorizing which ones can and which ones can't. This means turrets are generally organized into Long Range (Over 7500m) and Short Range (Under 7500m) categories. Information on specific turrets can be found on the Base Weapon Information Page.
Final Notes
- Always try and keep your decoys moving back and forth so that you can dodge projectile shots fired at you. Although it can be difficult, especially for some of the faster ones running Iridium Arrays, but if you can nail it you can hit bases for no damage, or all projectile bases which you would ordinarily never snipe at all. An example of this can be seen in the video below.
- If you see three turrets at an angle to each other, you should never try and snipe the middle one unless absolutely necessary as it is a hard snipe which you'll take tons of damage on.
- Try and keep your decoys out of range of Short Range Turrets. If you come in from the right angle and are precise about it you should always be able to do this. Getting in range of a Short Range Turret can prove fatal as you'll take far more damage than you would by staying out of range.
- Make sure to clear CMs between you and the Bridge so that you can snipe it without any resistance. Should a bridge have a Long Range Turret on it, you may want to prep the turrets around it so your decoys have an easier time dodging.
