How does AF Work? |
|
The Arcadia Federation is an Authoritarian-Democracy, we also just came up with that term. What it means is we have a permanent Supreme Leader who remains in power until stepping down or impeached. There are set spots dedicated for Advisors which can be permanent, handpicked, or elected depending on why they are there. The amount of advisors changes based on how many AF alliances there are, and how many members are in AF.
The duty of an Advisor is to serve as a body to help the Supreme Leader in their job, as nobody is perfect, but also to act as a limit on the Supreme Leader's power. Advisors have two basic limits that they may act upon if needed:
Notice that it is easier to impeach the Supreme Leader than it is to overturn one of their decisions - this is intentionally done. The system was designed to make it easy to replace leaders mattering on the various needs of the alliance. Meanwhile, should a decision want to be overturned, it needs a 66% majority to give the Supreme Leader greater authority to act without fear of being overturned, but still forced to maintain caution of impeachment. By having it easier to impeach than it is to overturn decisions, advisors are forced to consider whether the issue is important enough to force a change of power.
- Permanent: Generally an Alliance Leader / Founding Member of AF.
- Handpicked: Chosen by the Supreme Leader generally as a specific aid in a category.
- Elected: Voted in by the Officers / Members in order to represent their bodies in AF.

- With a 66% Majority Decision, they may overturn any Supreme Leader decision.
- With a 51% Majority Decision, they may impeach the Supreme Leader.

Several Fundamental Laws also exist which are designed as built-in limits on the power a Supreme Leader has, or alliance rules which they cannot change. The only way they can be changed, removed, or added is by an 80% Majority Decision by the current Advisors. For example:
- The Supreme Leader cannot change the government - to preserve integrity of the system.
- The Supreme Leader cannot force an Alliance Leader to abdicate - to preserve alliance leader authority & independence, but also to allow the Supreme Leader to remove officers or members should it be necessary.
Additional Systems and Specifications exist in order to replace, impeach, override, etc... decisions by the Supreme Leader / Renew and Expand the Advisory Board. For Specifications, and a broad view of the government, please see the Infographic Below.

Joining InAlthough Advisor spots are limited, it's still possible to get involved and join AF's government through various methods. Elected Advisors are picked every Equinox/Solstice, make sure to run and you might just win everyone else to win a spot!
It's also possible to become an officer for your respective alliance, or even a different AF alliance entirely. Make sure to be interactive in-game and on LINE, and let your leaders know you're interested in a position overtime, odds are you'll get it one day. If you're interested in helping new recruits, then give AFR's leader a call as they're always looking for help.
Whether you get an actual Officer, Advisor, or Leadership position however, simply being there to help people when its needed, whether through combat, resource-sharing, tips, or more... you are making AF a better place for everyone and we thank you for it!

The History Behind our Government
AF has had its government rebuilt, altered, or changed more than most alliances in the game ever will. Part of that is due to our unique history which can be read about in the Historical Archives. Prior to our current government though, we were almost a total democracy for almost 9 months, the vast majority of AF's existance. What went wrong?
In all truthfullness, it actually worked exactly as it was intended to do. AF was originally a merge between multiple different alliances, and the system offered a way for each to remain tied as AF, but represent their own interests, help pursue a path they wanted, and remain their independence. The problem arose in the fact that not only does this take time, but it also requires effort and calmheads on behalf of those involved.

For the most part AF's officers & leaders worked well together, leaving the only problem being that only a few had the ability to put in the effort to making the system work. However with the now regrettable decision to let in what became AF7, the system began to break down in an intentional effort to dismantle AF's democracy. This led to a power-split which resulted in AF's acting director to quit, the runner-up taking power, and the removal of AF7 from the Arcadia Federation.
Although crisis was averted, this led to the serious consideration of replacing AF's government. During the next election, Pacemaker Huyt became acting Director of Arcadia and began talks with 12 different officers & leaders from all AF alliances for the creation of a new system. The discussion would carry on from May 8, 2016 to May 25, 2016 as various ideas were voted on, denied, edited, denied, edited more, maybe accepted, and so on for a total of 48 different votes. The new government went into effect on May 27, 2016, on AF's 1 year anniversery. |
